-2015/16 Regular Season PIT/WSH Series: 3-2 Penguins.
-Pens have won their last 7 of 8 playoffs series vs. Washington.
-In the last Pens-Caps playoff series in 2009, Crosby had 13 points and Alex Ovechkin had 14.
-Ovechkin however did not score a single point vs. the Pens in the 2015/16 regular season.
-Only 9 players remain for both teams from that last playoff meeting in 2009: Crosby, Fleury, Kunitz, Letang, and Malkin for the Penguins. Backstrom, Orpik (then with PIT), and Ovechkin for the Capitals.
-The Pens scored at least 1 power play goal in every game of round 1, 5 games all together.
-The Penguins & Matt Murray are on a 3 game win streak.
-Murray is also 1 win away from sharing the team record for most wins by a rookie in their first playoffs starts.
-Evgeni Malkin is on a 4 game assist streak.
-Sidney Crosby & Kris Letang are both on 3 game point streaks.
-Conor Sheary is on a 2 game goal scoring streak, his first career back-to-back goal scoring playoff games.
PENS BULLET POINTS
-Murray's Fury: Murray needs to stay calm & steady in goal, despite heading on to round 2 as a rookie starter. And the Pens must protect him, as he remains their only legitimate goaltending option.
-The Ovi Equation: You can't expect stop a Cup-desperate Ovechkin all the time, simply aim to contain him as best as possible and minimize his damage. (As Washington will also try to do for 87 & 71.)
-Speaking of Damage: Keep Tom Wilson, Mike Weber, etc. in check. Don't allow them to get in the dirty shots they're so fond of or a chance to injure any Pens.
-Know Your Enemy: Pay attention & serious coverage to some of Washington's most lethal players, who run a bit under the radar vs. their "superstars". Guys like John Carlson, Marcus Johansson, Evgeni Kuznetsov & Justin Williams.
