Welcome to the newly re-launched Pens Report.com!
The site has been on hiatus since June to prepare for this complete re-design and new ownership. Now we're excited to finally share what we've been working on all these months.
When you visit this new site you'll find the latest articles and updates here on the home page. And you'll see we have numerous additional site sections for you to browse, which we're continuing to add to daily now that the site is live.
To kick-off the site launch, we thought it'd be best to tell you a bit about Pens Report & its history.
The Pens Report operation began as a single-person run Twitter account covering the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2010/2011 season. That simple start was steadily built on through the years, and now the @pensreport Twitter account is now one of the longest-running, continuously operating Pens accounts on the site. 2015/2016 marks its 5th season of providing daily, year-round Penguins news & commentary.
Soon after creation in 2011, Pens Report’s growth on Twitter was so rapid, it quickly grew to include a spin-off website, PensReport.com, and added a team of 3 writers. Over the subsequent years it developed steadily as an independent Pens news outlet. Boasting a constant online presence, solid readership, and numerous appealing web, social media, informational, design, and photographic assets.
The small, independent operation was dedicated enough to secure its own access to and provide live coverage of such monumental Penguins events as the 2011 Winter Classic, 2012 Draft, the opening and inaugural game at Consol Energy Center, and every playoff series since 2011.
Its background and desirable digital properties garnered the attention of a local media company, and as a result Pens Report was bid for and purchased by Aiden Vogel and his company 2Twelve Media (formerly 360 Media) this past June.
2Twelve’s principle operator has an extensive history working in sports media with outlets such as Vox, Crave Online, Haymarket Publishing, and TDH Communications, among others. The company's 2 executives have degrees in sports management and mass communications, respectively. And are both Pittsburgh born and raised. This expertise in sports marketing and digital media properties (and Pittsburgh) was utilized to refurbish the Pens Report brand and re-tool its site for this new launch in Fall 2015. We’ve taken the most popular elements of the prior operation and increased the brand’s scope and polish with our specialized knowledge and veteran personnel.
To that end, we’re adding more Pens coverage than ever, new writers & staff, and expanding Pens Report’s presence to lengths never before ventured.
The mandate of the new ownership of Pens Report is to provide unique coverage of the team that stands out among the rest, and to offer content that has a distinctive and focused editorial direction. Good work will speak for itself and we’re ready to prove it.
